Gardai are investigating the death of a young man in Dundalk, Co Louth last night.
The man’s body is being transferred to Dublin for a post mortem examination tomorrow by the Deputy State pathologist Michael Curtis.
A Garda spokesman said the status of the investigation would not be changed until the results of the post mortem were received.
The body of the 24-year-old was found in a lane off Avenue Road in Dundalk shortly after 11.30pm and was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after midnight. He has been named locally as Stephen Quigley.
"The body remains at the scene pending the arrival of the State Pathologist and crime scene examiners from the Garda Technical Bureau," a Garda spokesman said.
"There are signs of injury to the body, however a post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the exact cause of death."
