Body recovered after man jumps from Shannon boat

The body of a man who is believed to have jumped from a boat on the River Shannon in Co Roscommon has been recovered.

The body of a man who is believed to have jumped from a boat on the River Shannon in Co Roscommon has been recovered.

Matthew Armstrong (20) of Cortobber, Co Roscommon jumped from the pleasure cruiser Moonriverat around 1am on Sunday.

He is understood to have been out with friends and was on the deck of the boat when the incident happened.

The body, which has not been formally identified, was recovered by members of the Lough Ree Sub Aqua club at around 2.30pm today.

Local civilian water units and gardaí had been searching for Mr Armstrong in the Rinnacureen area, which is about one mile outside Carrick-on-Shannon.
