The PSNI are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery.

A post mortem examination will be carried out on the body to establish the cause of death.

In a separate discovery yesterday, divers searching for the body of a man who fell into the River Lagan after a night out drinking recovered a body.

Joby Murphy (20) entered the water off the bridge at the Lagan Weir in Belfast last month after spending the evening at the nearby Odyssey entertainment venue.

Family members have been holding regular vigils at the site since.

They have also called for an end to cheap drink promotions in the wake of Mr Murphy's death.

A PSNI spokesman said yesterday: "Police divers have recovered the body of a man from the River Lagan this afternoon. The family of Joby Murphy have been notified, however formal identification of the body has not yet taken place."
