The body of a young man was taken from the Shannon in Limerick yesterday

The body of a young man was taken from the Shannon in Limerick yesterday. The Limerick Marine Search and Rescue Unit recovered the victim near Barrington's Pier yesterday morning.

A Garda spokesman said the body had been identified, but the name has not been released until relatives are informed.

A pensioner struck by a car while walking near his home in West Cork has died from his injuries at Bantry Hospital. Mr William Young from Church Cross outside Skibbereen was injured in the accident on December 5th and died on Christmas Day.
