A man's body was taken from the water at Connemara yesterday evening not far from where a farmer was swept out to sea.
The body was recovered by local men who were taking part in the search for the farmer.
The body of the man, whose name has not been released, was found at about 7pm yesterday. He was taken to University College Hospital in Galway for a postmortem.
The farmer, in his 30s, had been tending stock in stormy weather at Beal a' Daingean, Lettermore, when the accident happened just after 5pm.
The man's brother, who was at the scene, was unable to reach the man in the water and immediately alerted the emergency services.
A Shannon-based rescue helicopter raced to the scene, while the Casla Bay Coast Guard lifeboat also put to sea.
Gardaí had warned yesterday that high winds and rough seas could pose a serious threat to searchers.
