Bohemians 1 Shelbourne 0
A late Bobby Ryan strike against Shelbourne has clinched the Eircom League Premier Division title for Bohemians at Tolka Park this afternoon.
The goal came just three minutes from the final whistle after an energetic match in which Bohs shaded it on chances created but looked for so long that they may have to wait another week before the commencement of celebrations.
The league leaders were much the better side for the majority of the first half, restricting Shels to speculative long balls into the box that proved too easy for the Bohs defence to deal with.
Bohs did however look a little impotent up front without Glen Crowe and despite dictating for most of the first half they were also struggling for options in the final third.
The best opportunity coming from a strong surging run from Mark Rutherford and a stinging shot that was turned over the bar by Williams in the Shelbourne goal.
The second half brought with it much of the same as Bohs looked the better side but continued to break down in as the goal line drew closer.
But there never say die attitude that has been abundantly evident this season was there again and when Bobby Ryan pushed his cross deep to the back post where it was collected by Mark Rutherford, it looked as if another opportunity had gone abegging.
Rutherford, lively throughout, refused to let the chance breakdown and returned the favour by putting the ball right back into the danger zone.
Ryan was on the end of it this time, stooping to head it into the top corner and seal the championshjip for Bohs.
