A bomb exploded today outside a court building in Vitoria, the capital of Spain's Basque Country, injuring one person.
The attack appeared to be the work of the Basque separatist group ETA, officials said.
Explosives believed to have been packed into a car trailer went off at about 6 a.m. (5 a.m. Irish time) outside the Palace of Justice in the centre of Vitoria, setting parked cars on fire and damaging the courthouse and other buildings, they said.
"The person injured was hit by flying debris and was not seriously hurt," said a spokesman for the region's police force.
A warning call was made to a highway rescue organisation before the explosion and although ETA was not mentioned, the style of the call was similar to previous warnings of bomb attacks by the group, a spokeswoman for the organisation said.
Another warning call was made to a local radio station.
ETA has claimed 35 killings since it ended a ceasefire in late 1999 and about 800 since it began its violent campaign for independence in 1968.
