A number of houses were damaged in a blast bomb attack in east Belfast yesterday afternoon that is being linked to the developing UVF-LVF feud which last week claimed the life of Mr Brian Stewart, a Loyalist Volunteer Force member.

The explosion happened in London Street around 4 p.m. yesterday not long after Mr Stewart, who was murdered by the UVF in east Belfast last Tuesday, was buried amid tight security in Roselawn cemetery on the outskirts of the city.

No one was injured in this latest attack, although the blast shattered windows and caused a minor fire in the house.

These incidents follow on two weekend explosions and a number of shootings in east Belfast that followed from Mr Stewart's murder and are part of this latest bout of UVF-LVF violence. This latest feud is reported to have erupted after an LVF member was threatened for selling drugs outside a school.

Some efforts are taking place to try to end the feud but so far have met with little success.

Mr David Ervine, the leader of the Progressive Unionist Party, which is linked to the UVF, said he was striving to broker a resolution of the feud and appealed for calm.
