British Army bomb experts have defused a device under a car in Greenisland near Cartrickfergus, Co Antrim. The vehicle belonged to a Catholic family who have lived there for 40 years.

The pipe bomb was left under the car in Glenkeen Avenue. No group has so far admitted responsibility but it is understood that the device was planted by loyalists.

Meanwhile, a 24-year-old man is recovering in hospital after being shot in both legs in east Belfast. He was found on waste ground in Derwent Street in a loyalist district.
