A book of evidence has been served on Limerick man John Dundon, who is charged with the murder of Shane Geoghegan four years ago.
In August John Dundon (29), with a last address at Hyde Road, Limerick, was charged with the murder of the 28-year-old Garryowen rugby player at Clonmore, Kilteragh, Dooradoyle, Limerick, on November 9th, 2008.
The case was brought before the non-jury Special Criminal Court as the Director of Public Prosecutions certified that the ordinary courts were inadequate to secure the administration of justice.
Counsel for Dundon, Shane O’Callaghan BL, asked for legal aid for his client, as a statement of means detailed how Dundon had no income and no assets.
Seán Guerin, for the State, said the prosecution was making no submission on the statement of means. Presiding judge Mr Justice Garrett Sheehan, sitting with Judge Margaret Heneghan and Judge William Hamill, said the court would grant legal aid and backdate the order to August 17th.
He remanded the accused in custody to appear before the court via video link on October 30th.
