A new book on European Works Councils is "a major step towards lifting the veil of secrecy that surrounds corporate affairs in Ireland", according to SIPTU national industrial secretary Mr Des Geraghty.

Speaking at the publication of European Works Councils: Information and Consultation Rights yesterday, Mr Geraghty said: "I don't have to tell anyone in Ireland at the present time that if people are not given access to information they are entitled to they have every right to be suspicious". Mr Geraghty wrote the book with Mr Norbert Gallagher of the Irish Productivity Centre. It outlines EU and national legislation in the area and how employees should go about securing a European Works Council agreement in the workplace.
