Boots pharmacy chain plans to expand its operation in Ireland by opening an additional 30 stores over the next five years.

The company - which has 40 shops in the Republic - says the expansion will cost €50 million and lead to the creation of more than 800 jobs.

The announcement was made by Director Boots Ireland Rhys Iley as he confirmed the group's 41st store will open in St Laurence Town Centre, Drogheda, in early October.

Another store opening is planned before the end of the year, and there are also plans to relocate the Boots Aston Quay store to a larger Dublin city centre location shortly.
