THE HAGUE: Two Bosnian Serbs went on trial in The Hague yesterday, accused of masterminding the genocide of hundreds of Croats and Muslims during the 1992-95 Bosnian war.
Gen Momir Talic (59) and his close ally, Mr Radoslav Brdjanin (53) are charged with 12 counts of war crimes, including genocide.
The two ran the Krajina area, which saw some of the worst ethnic cleansing campaigns. They took part in a "joint criminal enterprise", aimed at forcibly and permanently removing Muslims and Croats from the territory where they had lived for centuries, the indictment said.
Gen Talic and Mr Brdjanin have both pleaded not guilty.
Mr Brdjanin facilitated ethnic cleansing "by securing all instruments of state power", while troops under Gen Talic's command killed hundreds of unarmed Muslims and Croats, the indictment said. - (AP)
