SARAJEVO - Bosnian government troops substantially withdrew from a demilitarised zone in Sarajevo yesterday and Nato intervened to head off a possible clash between the Bosnian army and Croat militia troops.
The Dayton peace agreement required all military forces to withdraw from a 2 km wide demilitarised "zone of separation" either side of the boundary between Bosnia's Serb republic and its MuslimCroat federation.
