Some of Ireland's leading business figures will return to their roots in support of the Irish Cancer Society's (ICS) "Back to the Shop Floor" Daffodil Day campaign.

Mr Louis Copeland, Mr Fran Rooney, Ms Celia Larkin and Sherry FitzGerald's Mr Mark Fitzgerald washed dishes at an ICS coffee morning in Peploe's Bistro, Dublin, today to show their support for the event, which was launched today.

The Back to the Shop Floor campaign involves chief executives and top corporate managers taking a "step down the career ladder" and doing tasks they would not normally do. Staff and colleagues are asked to sponsor the effort.

Last year, the campaign raised an additional €150,000 on top of daffodil sales. Over 90 companies have already signed up to take part in this year's event, said ICS chairman Mr Tom Finlay.

"Feedback from companies who took part last year has indicated that many found this to be an excellent employee-relations exercise, fostering fun and inclusion in the workplace while helping to support a great national cause" he said.

"It's fantastic to think that on Daffodil Day, management in workplaces countrywide will be busy doing jobs such as washing cars, hoovering and serving coffee to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society."

This year's Back to the Shop Floor event is on Daffodil Day, Friday March 19th , with all proceeds going to the Irish Cancer Society,  which finances free cancer nursing services for patients and families.
