ROCK stars turned out in greater numbers than movie stars at two of the Cannes parties earlier in the week. On Monday there were cocktails by the pool, on the roof of the Savoy hotel, to celebrate the launch of eight new videos featuring Queen and all three surviving members of the late Freddie Mercury's band attended.
British Heritage Minister Virginia Bottomley turned up, too, and left at midnight to catch the packed late-night screening of the hugely successful British movie, Trainspotting. Out of the Minister's earshot, one guest reminded me of the wicked anagram Stephen Fry devised from her name - I'm an evil Tory bigot.
