Ireland winger Tommy Bowe made up somewhat for missing out on the Triple Crown today after he was named the 2010 RBS 6 Nations Player of the Championship by rugby supporters.

The Ospreys player scored three tries during the campaign, including two in Ireland’s 20-16 win over England in Twickenham.

He also scored in the second half of last Saturday’s game against Scotland at Croke Park, a try that helped Ireland level matters at 17-17 when Ronan O’Gara landed the conversion.

It wasn’t enough in the end as Scotland went on to claim a 23-20 victory on the day.

On receiving the trophy, Bowe said: “It has been a Championship of mixed emotions for the Irish team but to be named the RBS Player of the Championship is a fantastic way to end what has been an exciting tournament.

The outcome was decided as a result of a public vote after a panel of former internationals from all six nations submitted their top three nominations.

Bowe ensured that the award stayed in Ireland with over 50 per cent of the votes going his way - last year’s winner Brian O’Driscoll received nearly 30 per cent of the votes cast.

The remaining votes were dominated by Grand Slam-winners France with Imanol Harinordoquy receiving 20.9 per cent and Morgan Parra gaining 11.5 per cent of the votes.
