Rumours were rife today that Lee Bowyer is set for a long-term move to Newcastle but the St James's club have not confirmed any such dealings.
However, Bowyer's advisors confirmed the former Leeds midfielder is in talks with potential new employers amid speculation that a move to Newcastle is close to being tied up.
Bowyer became a free agent after completing a four-month loan spell at West Ham and is expected to sign a five-year deal with the Magpies.
A spokesperson for Newcastle said to BBC online: "Our policy remains that we will only comment if and when we sign a player, but until such time we have nothing more to say".
Newcastle had been linked to Bowyer when he left Leeds in January, though the player opted for West Ham, the club he supported as a child. Bowyer always made it clear that would only remain at Upton Park if the club retained Premiership status.
Bowyer had been linked to a £9 million sterling move to Liverpool last season but failed to agree personal terms.
Sir Bobby Robson has long been a fan of Bowyer's talents on the field, despite his personal problems off it. If the move goes ahead it would set up a reunion with former Leeds team mate Jonathan Woodgate.
