The father of Olympic boxer Darren Sutherland has thanked the people of Navan for their support since news emerged of his son’s tragic death last week.

Tony Sutherland said he would deal with many of the issues surrounding his son's suicide and mental health issues on the Late Late Showon Friday night.

He rejected suggestions that the family were upset at the presence of Tracey Maloney, the wife of Darren's manager Frank Maloney.

"I'll answer everybody's questions. We think this is the only way to do this and to allow everybody get a clear insight of how we feel about Darren.

"I just want to finish what was done and get on with our lives," he said.

The funeral of the 27-year-old  Beijing Olympic bronze medallist took place on Monday in Navan.
