A 14-year-old Dublin boy was crushed to death in a lift shaft at St Michael's estate, a Dublin Corporation flats complex at Inchicore.
It is understood he had got on top of the lift and became entangled in the cabling.
Gardai say the details of the incident are still unclear and they are investigating. The name of the boy, who is believed to be from Clondalkin, will not be released until his family have been informed.
Three of his companions were taken to St James's Hospital where they were treated for shock.
