A 15-year-old boy from a south inner-city flats complex appeared in Dún Laoghaire District Court yesterday charged in connection with Sunday's fatal car incident in which Garda Tony Tighe and Garda Michael Padden were killed.
The youth was charged with allowing himself to be carried in the Mazda sports car which struck the Garda squad car killing the two officers in the early hours of Sunday morning.
He is also charged with burglary at an apartment in Pilot View, Bullock Habour, and theft of goods worth €6,035.
The charge sheet referred to credit cards, a mobile telephone and the keys of the Mazda MX car that was taken from Pilot View and later involved in the collision with the Garda car.
The charges were put to him in Blackrock Garda station on Wednesday night, the court was told.
A Garda inspector told the court that when the charges were put to the youth, who will be 16 in July, he replied: "Nothing to say."
Yesterday in Dún Laoghaire court, Judge Kirby remanded the boy in custody for seven days.
He heard that a place was being made available at the Trinity House youth detention centre for the 15-year-old.
The youth appeared with his right arm and leg in plaster, having received injuries in the collision.
He was asked if he wanted free legal aid for his defence and replied: "Yes".
He was also asked if he had a preferred solicitor and he asked for Mr Michael Staines.
