A 17-year-old boy has been killed in a moped crash in Co Antrim.

A 17-year-old boy has been killed in a moped crash in Co Antrim.

The crash happened on the Carntall Road in Newtownabbey last night and involved a second moped.

A PSNI spokesman said: "It is understood the boy, 17, was riding a moped in the direction of Mossley in the company of a second moped when the collision occurred at around 10.15pm."

The 16-year-old rider of the second moped was taken to hospital but police said his injuries were not believed to be life threatening. 

Meanwhile, a woman (70)  is in a critical condition in hospital after she was knocked down yesterday evening at Church Road in Newtownabbey shortly before 6pm.

"It is understood the collision which involved a Volkswagen Golf car occurred close to a fast food restaurant and police in Newtownabbey are appealing for anybody who witnessed the collision to come forward," a PSNI spokesman said.
