BRITAIN: A toddler was brought back to life more than seven hours after he was discovered face down in a garden pond, it emerged yesterday. Two-year-old Joe Towey was showing no signs of life when he was pulled out of the water at his Birmingham home and taken to hospital.
The battle to save him is thought to be the longest successful resuscitation carried out in the UK.
Joe was discovered in the pond by his parents, Michael and Jennifer Towey on St Stephen's Day.
Instructed by emergency staff over the phone, they gave the youngster mouth-to-mouth resuscitation before paramedics took him to Heartlands Hospital, where he was revived.
Mr Towey told the Birmingham Evening Mail: "Joe was dead, he was completely gone. But the staff at Heartlands were amazing - they never gave up."
