A four-year-old boy has died in hospital after a car crash in Co Kerry.

A four-year-old boy has died in hospital after a car crash in Co Kerry.

He was a passenger in a car that went out of control and overturned at Ballyconroy, on the Ballybunnion to Ballyduff Road, at 1.30pm.

Three other occupants of the vehicle were taken to Tralee General Hospital for treatment.

There were no other vehicles involved.

Gardai at Listowel are investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Yesterday, a child was among three people killed in separate road crashes in Northern Ireland.

The child was in a car which was involved in a collision with another vehicle on the Newry Road near Kilkeel, Co Down, just after 2pm. Two other people were seriously injured.

Earlier, a man in his 30s was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Co Derry. He was struck by a vehicle on the Maghera Road, Tobermore, close to the Glenshane Pass.

Another man in his 40s died when his car was in collision with another vehicle in Co Tyrone. The crash happened on the Moneymore Road near Cookstown just before 10am. The driver of the second car was taken to hospital but his injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

And as torrential rain swept across the North yesterday, 13 people needed treatment after a bus and tractor crashed. The collision happened on the Lisnevanath Road between Ballymena and Antrim.

Twelve passengers along with the bus driver were all taken to hospital suffering from shock.
