A four-year-old boy was killed in a road crash near Mullingar, Co Westmeath last night.
The boy was travelling in a jeep which was in a crash with a van on the N4 Dublin to Sligo road shortly after 5pm.
The jeep was towing a trailer and a van was travelling behind it in the same direction. The boy was taken to Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the jeep and another occupant were also taken to the hospital. However, their injuries were not life threatening. The driver of the van did not need to be treated in hospital.
