Manchester - A boy was sentenced to three-years in youth custody yesterday after being found guilty of committing a male rape when he was aged 12. The child, who cannot be named for legal reasons and is now 14, is thought to be the youngest person in Britain to be convicted of male rape.
He denied the charge but was found guilty by a jury at Manchester's Minshull Street Crown court. Judge Jonathan Geake sentenced him to three-years youth custody. A spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service said the boy attacked his victim, who was only 10 years old at the time, in Sedgley Park, Prestwich, Greater Manchester, in April of last year. The two boys had been friends and had hung around in a group with other boys.
