A two-year-old boy was killed in a fire and his mother was in a critical condition last night after a house fire in Coolock, Dublin.

The boy was named last night as Jason Byrne, of Cromcastle Road.

Two other people, the woman's parents, were also hospitalised after the fire, which broke out in a bedroom at about 7.45 a.m. yesterday.

The alarm had been raised by neighbours who saw smoke coming from the windows of the house. Three units of Dublin Fire Brigade fought the blaze with the assistance of gardai from Santry station.
