A boy aged seven was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Belfast's Falls Road last night. His mother was very seriously injured as was a male friend walking with them.

The RUC said the car had been stolen earlier in the city centre. After the accident it crashed into another vehicle and the occupants, both youths, ran down Grosvenor Road. The RUC has appealed for witnesses to contact them.

Earlier an elderly woman was knocked down and critically injured in another hit-and-run accident outside Derry city. She was struck by two cars near Liberty Bridge, on Culmore Road near the Border with Co Donegal.
