A six-year-old boy, who was electrocuted while playing at a local authority lamppost, may have been the victim of an evil vandal, a judge has said.

Judge Liam Devally in Dublin Circuit Civil Court dismissed a £30,000 damages claim brought on behalf of Luke Thompson, now aged nine, of Druid Court, Poppintree, Dublin, by his father William.

The judge dismissed the claim on the grounds that a live wire hanging from the lamppost had probably been left dangling in "a deliberate and evil act" by somebody wanting to shock or injure some casual passer-by.
