A Dublin man visited a room where his girlfriend was resting and discovered she had been raped by another guest at a party, the Central Criminal Court has heard.

The woman told her boyfriend the man had snuggled up to her in the bed and removed her pyjama bottoms before having intercourse. It was the second day of the trial of a 35-year-old man who has pleaded not guilty to raping the woman on January 5th, 1997.

The woman's boyfriend told Mr Anthony Sammon SC (with Ms Mary Ellen Ring) that he confronted the defendant, who denied raping the woman and attempted to return to the woman's bedroom.

After further argument, the defendant left the house.

He agreed that his girlfriend told him that she did not know who her attacker was, and appeared confused and upset. The trial continues.
