Andrew Lloyd-Webber says he is overwhelmed by the success of his song No Matter What, which has gone to number one for Boyzone in its first week of release.
Taken from the musical Whistle Down The Wind, it sold almost 280,000 copies in the first six days of release and knocked the Spice Girls off the top slot on Sunday.
Lloyd-Webber, who wrote the song with Jim Steinman, said: "I am overwhelmed. It is a dream come true to have a hit from my new musical Whistle Down The Wind."
The single is still selling strongly, with 380,000 copies expected to have been sold by this morning. Lloyd-Webber had a previous number one hit with Don't Cry For Me, Argentina, sung by Julie Covington in 1976.
From small beginnings as a Dublin-based "boy band" Boyzone has risen in under five years to international stardom.
