The European election campaign manager for the Dublin Lord Mayor, Mr Royston Brady, has said he has no idea who was behind the damage to to some of his election posters in south Dublin.
Gardaí in Dundrum are investigating the incident in which two non-national men were arrested on Wednesday night when some 150 of Mr Brady's Fianna Fáil posters were found in a damaged condition in the boot of a car.
One of the two was charged on Thursday with an immigration offence. The other is still under investigation in relation to the posters being removed and damaged.
Mr Eugene Levitchi was remanded in custody at Dún Laoghaire District Court to appear before the court at 10.30 a.m. on May 19th.
During a brief hearing before Judge Clare Leonard on Thursday, Mr Levitchi faced charges for failing to produce satisfactory papers under the 2002 Immigration Act.
The man who was arrested with Mr Levitchi was freed, but Garda sources said yesterday that he remained under investigation in relation to immigration issues and in relation to the removal and damage to the Fianna Fáil election posters.
While Mr Brady has described the incident as "sinister", his campaign manager Mr Rory Scanlan said yesterday that he did not know who was responsible for incident.
"I have no evidence and the guys who were caught are saying nothing," Mr Scanlan said.
