Crisis-hit Brazil ended a four-match losing streak on Sunday with a 2-0 win over Peru to relaunch their flagging Copa America campaign.

Goals from from Guilherme and second-half substitute Denilson sealed victory for Felipe Scolari's beleaguered side, putting Brazil on course for a place in the quarter-finals.

Brazil, the defending Copa America champions, desperately needed a win after losing 1-0 to Mexico in their opening Group B match last week.

Sunday's victory sees them move up to second place in the group behind leaders Mexico, who secured their place in the quarter-finals after a dull 0-0 draw with Paraguay.

Brazil coach Scolari said: "We needed a win because there was a lot of pressure on the squad, particularly the younger players. This result will give everybody confidence."

Playing in an unfamiliar 3-5-2 formation, Brazil showed improved defensive organisation in an essentially workmanlike performance in front of 30,000 spectators at the Pascual Guerrero stadium.

Scolari acknowledged the decision to pack his midfield had been designed for stronger defence. "The new system worked well," he said. "But it is only a temporary solution for the moment, because the team is so unsettled."
