Dozensof Brazilians yesterday celebrated their team's qualification for the quarter-finals of the World Cup by dancing the samba through the centre of Derry.
The 40-strong party, who are in Derry for this week's World Masters Judo Championships, sang and danced their way around the city centre minutes after Brazil had beaten Belgium.
Members of the group, many of them dressed in their soccer team's colours, linked hands and celebrated the 2-0 win by dancing along Derry's historic walls.
"It is a great day for Brazil," said tour leader Ms Cristiana Pallavicino.
"We are very happy but we are also very sad for Ireland. The people here are very friendly and we were hoping that Ireland would have beaten Spain yesterday, but I think Brazil will be one of four countries who will win the World Cup. I think Germany might get there, too, one of the Asia countries and maybe Senegal.
"We meet England in the quarter-final but I don't think England will make it," she said.
Mr Roberto Dutkiewcz said while he believed England were better organised than Brazil, he expected his country to make it through to the semi-finals.
"England, England are not very strong. We will beat them three to one. We have too many talented players. I would rather meet England rather than Ireland. The Irish should be still there but they failed to punish Spain in the second half and they were very poor with the penalty kicks," he said.
Mr Hamilton Correia said the Brazilians were delighted to be in Ireland during the World Cup.
"We cannot understand why the people in Derry danced in their thousands after the Irish team lost. I've been trying to explain it to my family in Brazil but I don't know how to. At home we celebrate a victory, here you celebrate a defeat," he said.
