Labour laws need to be changed to provide greater support for breast feeding mothers, the chairwoman of Cuidiu, the Irish Childbirth Trust, has said.
Ms Brenda O'Malley Farrell said it was essential that breast feeding breaks for working mothers and longer maternity leave be implemented if the targets set out in the 1994 national policy on breast feeding are to be realised.
An information booklet to support women in their decision to breast feed, produced by Cuidiu, will be published today.
