The former Irish high jumper and sports broadcaster Brendan O’Reilly has died at the age of 71

The former Irish high jumper and sports broadcaster Brendan O’Reilly has died at the age of 71. O’Reilly is believed to have been suffering from cancer.

Born in Granard, Co LongfordO’Reilly set anIrish record for the high jump and won titles at Irish, British and American level. He also represented his country in the javelin and decathlon.

After a distinguished sporting career, which included an athletic scholarship to the University of Michigan, he moved into broadcasting and worked for RTÉ television for a number of years.
