The Irish Bridge Union's all-Ireland simultaneous pairs tournament may be arranged by clubs or groups of clubs for November 1st or 2nd. Clubs which do not participate in that event may play in a similar competition on February 9th or 10th.

Some 24 hands will be pre-dealt - not fixed. Any convention may be used.

The world open and women's team championships will be played in Maastricht, Holland, next summer.

To select squads for the events the IBU will hold trials in the Templeogue Centre, Dublin, on October 29th-31st, and November 12th-14th.

The Contract Bridge Association of Ireland will use those trials as a basis for selecting teams for the home internationals. Spectators are welcome.

A minute's silence was observed, as a mark of respect, during the championships, when the news came through that the prominent Cork player, Denis Mc Grath, had died suddenly.
