Bright spark Wolfangel dependably colourful

Thomas Wolfangel has moved but he certainly hasn't changed

Thomas Wolfangel has moved but he certainly hasn't changed. Now operating from a large and pleasant house in Dun Laoghaire in Dublin, his spring collection of colourful suits and dresses with matching jackets are, as always, the centre of his activities.

The collection has a familiar feel; Wolfangel's clients have passed the experimental phases of their lives and like his dependability. And it is comforting - make no mistake.

Any mature woman with social engagements will find what she's looking for here.

"I like bright," the designer declared, ushering in a series of pink, peach and aquamarine wool suits.

Knee-length skirts and softly tailored jackets at around £450 could have a little fringing this season but his usual pin-tucking is not around.

There is bias cutting, and a defined waist.

The most adventurous pieces were asymmetrically cut in black-and-white leather, obviously taking a lot of time to make (£700).

Linens have been handled more imaginatively. In olive green and natural, the very full skirts and pocketed coats, sporty short-sleeved jackets and the ubiquitous blazer have a timeless quality.

The skirt comes with a matching jacket in a polka-dot viscose linen which, like all the clothes, can be ordered in just about any colour.

Loudly patterned silk dresses can be toned down with a slubbed cotton coat, the lavender tone softening the brightness of the grass-green and purple dress (£420).

And there are very dressy embroidered silk chiffons for frivolous numbers.

Wolfangel also does the brights in cotton voile used in lots of separates including long floating coats and comfortable palazzo pants.

Thomas Wolfangel likes it bright. In his new house, he's in the pink.

The designer's new address is: 24, Mellifont House, Mellifont Avenue, Dun Laoghaire.
