VETERAN Fianna Fail TD, Mr Ben Briscoe has expressed disappointment over his failure to secure one of the two automatic places on the party ticket in Dublin South Central. The former Lord Mayor of Dublin has been added to the list for the next general election.

Never beaten in an election at local or Dail level, Mr Briscoe commented yesterday "As my father used to say, Thank God it is the people who vote and not the organisation."

The two automatic places on the South Central ticket went by vote to Senator Michael Mulcahy and Cllr Sean Ardagh at a selection convention on Monday night. Mr Briscoe was added to the list by acclaim and that decision will be ratified at a later date by Fianna Fail's national executive.

He was disappointed that the convention did not put him through in line with a widely held view that an outgoing TD would be automatically selected.
