Great Britain have won the Aga Khan trophy by just one point after an exciting finale at the RDS in Dublin
Britain amassed a mere 17 penalty points, one ahead of Germany, with Belgium and the United states tied for third place on 24.
The Irish team, consisting of Billy Twomey, Capt. Shane Carey, Clement McMahon and Olympic rider Cian O'Connor, came fifth with 26 points.
Ireland's chances of success were thought to be slim this year with the team currently propping up the Samsung Super League with just 11.5 points.
Britain began in the coveted last position, but were only second favourites, alongside Germany, and behind the US.
The mood in the Irish camp was positive, with chef d'equipe Eamon Rice setting his sights on a top four finish. "We have to be ahead of the Dutch and the Belgians and I'd like to think that we'll be in the top four," he said.
Other events taking place today include the Irish Field Six Bar and the dressage demonstration.
