Britain is was recalling some diplomats and their families from Pakistan with immediate effect in response to security threats.
The British foreign minister, Jack Straw said he was also advising other British nationals to consider leaving Pakistan.
"The security threat to British interests in Pakistan has led me to take the difficult decision to reduce the level of diplomatic representation there," Straw said in a statement.
"We will begin reducing the number of staff and dependants in Pakistan with immediate effect."

The British High Commission in Pakistan had earlier warned British citizens of a heightened risk to their safety after a number of serious threats to British missions in the country.
