Two Dublin buildings are in the running for a top prize in an EU architectural competition

Two Dublin buildings are in the running for a top prize in an EU architectural competition. The British embassy on Merrion Road and the Ark in Temple Bar are among seven buildings shortlisted for the 1997 Stirling Prize, which is awarded annually by the Royal Institute of British Architects.

The awards are presented to buildings considered to be outstanding examples of current architecture. The embassy was designed by London architects Allies and Morrison while the Ark, Europe's first purpose- built cultural centre for children, was designed by Dublin-based Shane O'Toole and Michael Kelly. The winner will be named on November 20th.
