A British software company is to create 40 software and engineering jobs in Dublin city centre as part of an Industrial Development Agency development.

Sage Group is planning an International Localisation Centre and European Data Centre at its office in Ballsbridge.

Sage has two subsidiaries in Dublin. It employs 200 people at it Citywest plant which concentrates on the development of markets and supports products.

Another 40 people work on the development of CRM software applications at the Ballsbridge office.

Minister for Enterprise Trade and Employment, Micheal Martin said Sage Group's decision to establish the new centres in Dublin "will deepen Ireland's capability and enhance our international reputation in these areas".

"This is a knowledge intensive company and today's investment is highly dependent on the IT skills and knowledge of our workforce," he said.

The new localisation centre will serve customers in Europe and the US, while the European Data Centre will be a disaster recovery site and will host mission critical IT infrastructure for its US and European subsidiaries.

Liam Mullaney, Managing Director of Sage Ireland, said the decision to expand the Dublin plant was taken due to the company's positive experience with its existing Irish operations.

"The other major influence on our decision was the availability of people with the key skills and the advanced technical knowledge that we require," he said. "This expansion will play a strategic role in the company's development of its global markets and is a testament to Ireland's highly attractive business environment."

The company, which is headquartered in Newcastle, England, employs nearly 10,000 employees in 17 countries serving 4.7 million customers.
