A 20-year-old man has been arrested after one man was killed and two wounded in a series of shootings in Somerset, police said today.

Late yesterday, Avon and Somerset police officers responded to reports that a number of shots were being fired in the small market town of Street.

Two wounded men were found in the high street and a dead man was later discovered on a road near the rural town, 100 miles west of London. All had gunshot wounds, and police later recovered a firearm from the scene.

The 20-year-old man is being held on suspicion of attempted murder. Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the shootings.
