The death of a British skydiver who plunged 13,000 feet after his parachute chords were cut is no longer being treated as murder, police said this afternoon.

Experienced jumper Mr Stephen Hilder (20) was killed in front of hundreds of horrified spectators at a national competition in northern England last July.

The condition or Mr Hilder's equipment at the time of his death lead police to begin a murder inquiry.

However, they now regard the death as unexplained and are referring the case to the coroner who will consider whether Mr Hilder's death was suicide.
