SINGAPORE - An escaped British convict who killed and dismembered a South African tourist was hanged last night, becoming the first Westerner to be executed in Singapore for murder.
John Martin Scripps (36) was also implicated in two murders in Thailand and another in Mexico. He refused to appeal against his Singapore conviction.
Scripps, who was sharing a hotel room with Edward Lowe, clubbed him to death with a camping hammer in March of last year. He then chopped up Lowe's body, packed it in plastic bags and dumped them in a river behind the hotel.
