Journalist and broadcaster Eamon Dunphy was banned from driving for 10 years and fined €1,000 at Dublin District Court today for drink-driving.
Mr Dunphy pleaded guilty to drink driving on October 28th2001. Through his solicitor, he expressed his "shame and regret" over the incident.
The court heard that Dunphy had driven through a red light on Camden Street around 5.30 a.m. on the Sunday morning.
He was taken to Pearse Street Station where abreathyliser test was carried out and he was found to be over the legal limit.
Judge James Scally had indicated, after hearing of theprevious convictions, he was ready to hand down asuspended sentence but changed his mind after beinggiven details of the breath alcohol level recordedfollowing Dunphy's arrest.
Mr Dunphy has been banned from driving in the past and this is his ninth road traffic conviction.
He was banned for seven years in1997 after being found guilty on a number of chargesof driving without insurance or tax. His licence wasre-instated in 2000.
