American Football:The Denver Broncos continued their unbeaten start to the new NFL season with an enthralling 34-23 victory at division rivals the San Diego Chargers on Monday night to move to 6-0 for the campaign.

Eddie Royal became only the 11th player in NFL history — the first for the Broncos — to return a kick-off and a punt for touchdowns in the same game as his team snapped a three-game losing streak in San Diego and opened a three-and-a-half-game lead in the AFC West.

Second-year pro Royal returned a kick-off 93 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter and then ran a punt back 71 yards for a score in the second.

Kyle Orton completed 20 of 29 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns, tight end Tony Scheffler on the receiving end late in the third quarter to put his side 24-23 ahead.

"We're far from perfect, we know that, there's a lot of football still to be played," Bronco’s coach Josh McDaniels told reporters.

"We want to win every week. We're going to prepare hard every week and we want to keep it going. We have a lot of good guys who work hard and we've got a lot of guys who care about doing things the right way."

The last time Denver had a 6-0 start to a season was 1998, when they went 13-0 on their way to winning their second Super Bowl in a row.
