Pierce Brosnan has had to postpone his wedding, due to be held in Co Mayo this weekend, because his son is not well enough to attend. Sean Brosnan (16) was injured in a car crash last month.
The Irish-born actor was to have married Ms Keely Shaye-Smith in the 800-year-old Ballintubber Abbey in Co Mayo, followed by a reception in the historic Ashford Castle. A fleet of limousines and a wedding car had been booked to ferry the couple and guests from Dublin to Mayo on Saturday morning.
But yesterday a spokesman for the abbey said Brosnan had been forced to put the event on hold. "His son is still in hospital and is not well enough to make the six-hour trip to Ireland," he said. He added that no new date had yet been set for the wedding.
Sean suffered a broken pelvis and ruptured spleen when a car in which he was a passenger plunged 200 feet over an embankment in California. The driver of the car, James Hall, a cousin of Sean's, had swerved to avoid a rock on the road.
Sean Brosnan is the child from Brosnan's first marriage to the late Cassandra Harris.
