Two brothers have been remanded in custody in connection with the theft of large sums of money from parking meters all over Galway city, including €1,007 from one machine alone.

Vasile Feier (29) and Toader Feier (23), were arrested at 5am last Sunday and were brought in custody before Galway District Court yesterday.

The Romanian nationals are charged with having a cordless drill, a screwdriver and a steel bar with them to commit theft from a parking meter at the Crescent, Salthill, Galway, last Sunday night. They are also charged with damaging the meter and the attempted theft of a car from the area.

Judge Mary Fahy refused bail and remanded them in custody to Harristown District Court this Friday.
